Idemili is broken up into 19 towns (Idemili South and Idemili North). Keeping with the idea that Igbo dieties never appear in human form but manifests as animals in the physical world (Amadioha as a white ram for example), the Idemili clans like others consider the king python as sacred. Idemili (literally means Pillar of Water) is regarded as the goddess of all water bodies.
I’ve heard these pythons are everywhere and are fond of sleeping with indigenes without hurting them! It is said that when a child is born, Eke idemili would appear to honor it. When a man of high stature is about to die, he will appear and die first as a warning.
If a man kills a king python and lies, something bad will happen to him. If a king python is killed, it is deserving of a burial as if it was human!
There is one town called “Oba” there. Legend has it that it was founded by Oba Okehi who was born either by a giant bird or that bird bought him to that place to settle!
Recently one of the longest serving monarchs of Anambra state passed away. Igwe Peter Chukwuma Ezenwa of Oba served on the throne for over 40 years. He was the first traditional ruler. I believed he took the throne in 1977 if I remember correctly from late last night readings
